Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locates and applies relevant documentation, policies and procedures

implements the requirements, procedures and techniques for the safe, effective and efficient assisting with mud rotary drilling including:

operation of ancillary equipment

basic maintenance of ancillary equipment

conducting housekeeping

works effectively with others to undertake and complete the mud rotary drilling tasks that meets all of the required outcomes including:

complying with written and verbal reporting requirements and procedures

communicating clearly and concisely with others to receive and clarify work instructions

communicating clearly and concisely with others to resolve coordination requirements prior to commencing and during work activities

demonstrates completion of assisting with mud rotary drilling that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

fitting and removing bits and reamers to and from the drill string

preparing drill string in readiness for tripping and drilling

adding and removing drill pipe to and from the drill string

inspecting, addressing and reporting, drill pipe, bits, threads and associated equipment for damage

correctly mixing the drilling fluid
